If a guy has been hurt emotionally does it take longer for him to say I Love You than other guys?

Me and my boyfriend have a strange story of how we met. I was at my friends house and he started texting her and being really mean. So at this point I started texting him saying not to talk crap and started play flirting with him. I hadn't heard from him for about 8 months when we finally met face to face June 4th, I asked my friend if he was available and she said he had been hurt a while back by his friend making out with a girl he liked. She said that he needed a good girl who wasnt going tot hurt him and said that she thought I could be that girl, and we've have been dating for a week and a half. I don't want to rush anything not trying to sound like I want him to say "I Love You" right now. I have very strong feelings for him, he is so sweet he has his own apartment has a job and everything. I am about to get my first 9 to 5 job. I just feel like I am wanting to have a stable relationship with him and I don't want to mess it up. I just wanted to know if him being hurt like that would have an affect on how he is keeping his guard.
