How can I begin to learn trick riding?
First things first, you need a trick saddle. They're gonna cost you $1500 and up, but you simply can't trick without one. The horn has to be high enough for you to hook a leg around, and you need all of the handles and foot loops around the saddle. Next, always have someone out there with you when working tricks, as falling is just part of the job and if you fall bad or the horse steps on you, you may need a hospital. On to the actual tricks, your horse needs to be calm and obedient to do this, when you ask him for an easy canter, he needs to stay in it until you say otherwise, even if you are hanging off one side or crawling under his belly. He can't be skittish when you get off to a single side, just stay at that easy canter in the same old circle. Always learn new tricks with the horse standing still, so you don't have to worry about him stepping on you or you losing balance because he tripped. Safety first with this one, you're mom would be nervous for a reason, it's a high-risk sport
