Can someone explain Final Fantasy 4?

Okay so a friend and I were cleaning out my closet recently and I came across my old SNES and a bunch of games. I found Final Fantasy 2 which is actually 4 or something like that, but anyway my friend asked me what it was and I told her what I remembered. so anyway we got bored and plugged it in but i'm in the middle or beginning or somewhere, after wondering around I saw the famous "You spoony bard" scene and now i'm looking for a Sandruby and and i'm hearing about the red wings but I looked it up and I kinda remember the story but if anyone could explain I would appreciate it.
