WOuld hiking the Appalachian Trail look good on a college application?

I plan on transferring from my community college to auniversity... would hiking the 2175 mile trail look good on my application?I would have to take off spring semester and summer to hike this trail so i just want to know if its worth it? Also its gonna cost like 5,000 dollars.. Ive always wanted tot take the hike i just want to know if it would look good / better my chances.. if so then its worth it if not i can wait after college.
