Difference between 에 romanisation sound and 애?

에 is pronounced like "eh". 애 is kind of harder. It sounds like a cross between an A and an E. So maybe the closest thing 애 can sound like the a in "wag". So 제 would be like jeh and 재 would be like jae. But, it might be easier asking a native how to pronunce jae.
